Within the framework of its efforts to boost and strengthen entrepreneurship as a tool for sustainable economic development, PwC is supporting the 2nd Business Ideas Competition “ClimateLaunchpad 2015”, Europe’s biggest business ideas competition in clean-tech.

The official announcement of the local arm of the competition, which is being held under the auspices of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the Ministry of Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism, was made at a press conference held in Nicosia on 23 April. The competition constitutes part of the programme Climate-KIC, the European Union’s largest public-private innovation partnership focused on climate change.

The ten best entries from each country have the unique opportunity to take part in a two-day “boot camp”, where through a series of meetings they are coached for the final competition to be held in their country. There, they must present their business plan to the national jury made up of professionals of the sector.

Each country’s three finalists will participate in the European final which will be held in Amsterdam in September. The eight teams selected at the final will gain access to Climate-KIC accelerator, the “entrepreneurship school” which focuses on developing and marketing clean tech start-ups, offering valuable support during implementation.

The winner of the European final will receive a monetary prize of €10,000, while the two runners-up will win monetary prizes of €5,000 and €2,500, respectively.

Evgenios C. Evgeniou, CEO of PwC said: “Support of the competition falls within the framework of our long-standing effort to encourage entrepreneurship by supporting the community in which we are active by offering free consultative services, volunteer work and technical support for similar initiatives”.

The body responsible for the implementation of Climate Launchpad 2015 in Greece and Cyprus is Chrysalis Leap, Cyprus’ first business ideas “accelerator”.
